HSLAB Logger – Tool to Monitor Actions on a Computer
While you’re around it is quite easy to see what the person using your computer is doing with it. By person I mean you child, or perhaps your employee. But the moment you’re out of sight, who knows what they’re doing on the computer. You are totally left in the dark.
You need not be. A specialized piece of software can turn the lights on for you. I am of course talking about monitoring applications that tell you precisely what the person using the computer did. Similar to a keylogger – just that you are using it for all the good reasons, like making sure your child is not accessing content that is inappropriate for his age. Or to ensure you’re employee isn’t playing some online game the moment you walk out of the office.
Such an application is the Handy Software Lab-developed HSLAB Logger. The application weighs in at little over 4MB. At such a lightweight download size, you should have it downloaded to your computer in no time at all. Once downloaded, the installation process should go without a hitch. Officially, only Windows XP and Windows Vista are supported. But according to Microsoft, if an application worked on Vista, it should work just fine on Windows 7. We’ll just take Microsoft’s word and say it also works on Windows 7 – but we haven’t tested HSLAB Logger on this version, so we can’t be one hundred percent sure on that one.
Once installed on a computer, HSLAB Logger will run in the background an record every action the user makes. It will record what applications the user launches, it will record what files the user opens, it will record what webpages the user visits , it will record if the user plugged in removable media. To put it bluntly, it will record it all and show it to your when it is convenient for you.
You can then use HSLAB Logger to prevent the user from launching certain applications, from opening certain files, or from accessing removable media.
